Bruker AXS Introduces the M1 MISTRAL(TM) Gold and Jewelry Analyzer at ARABLAB 2009

January 11, 2009
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Jan 11, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- At ARABLAB 2009, Bruker AXS is introducing the M1 MISTRAL(TM), a compact table-top microanalysis X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer, which was developed specifically for non-destructive analysis of gold and other precious metals. The system provides fast and accurate results on the elemental composition of metals and alloys used for the production of jewelry, without the need for sample preparation. In particular, the M1 can be used to analyze yellow gold, white gold, platinum alloys and silver alloys, as well as other precious metals, jewelry and precious coins.

The M1 MISTRAL is also a perfect complement to fire assays commonly used in the industry, as it allows determination of many more elements, not only gold and silver. Its large sample stage allows the examination of irregularly shaped objects of up to 10 x 10 x 10cm, and its integrated video microscope with cross-hair function allows the exact positioning of large and intricately shaped pieces of jewelry. The M1's ultra-fine X-ray beam ensures that the composition is measured at exactly the desired location.

The design of the M1 MISTRAL and its analysis software make the instrument easy to use for non-experts, providing elemental compositions at only a few mouse clicks and with less than a minute of measurement time. Measurement results can be displayed either as elemental or gold alloy concentrations, or in karat to display the purity of gold alloys, or even as the monetary value of the sample analyzed. Furthermore, the PC-driven M1 MISTRAL is easy to maintain, does not require any consumables and has very low power consumption.

"The introduction of our new M1 MISTRAL gold and precious metals analyzer marks another important milestone in our strategy of making our analytical expertise and leading technology available to a wider range of applications," commented Thomas Schuelein, Co-President of Bruker AXS. "The decision to choose ARABLAB 2009 for a worldwide launch was made in appreciation of the impressive growth dynamics and economic potential of the region."
